Sobre o XXIII Fórum

The term idea can be understood as imagination, opinion, judgment, memory, invention, knowledge. In any of these meanings, the word represents what sets people apart from animals, their fundamental characteristic, the reason. This faculty enables humans to develop, through cognitive processes, what we call ideas, which are fundamental elements for their existence and social integration.

“In Porto Alegre, I had the chance of speaking at the 17th Liberty Forum for one of the largest and most attentive audiences I have ever seen in Brazil in events of this kind.”

Pedro Malan

Former Treasury Minister 1995/2002

“I am used to participating in meetings, workshops and debates. I can surely tell you that the meetings promoted by the Instituto de Estudos Empresariais (Institute for Business Studies) in Porto Alegre are something of its own kind. Few times have I seen so many people together, so many young people, so much responsibility and good organization. My participation in the meeting taught me a lesson and showed me something: there is still a lot to be done in Brazil to strengthen democracy and achieve improvements for Brazilians. But with people like those I saw in Porto Alegre, with so much energy, there are good reasons to continue to believe in this journey. There is more than hope, there are positive achievements.”

Fernando Henrique Cardoso

Brazilian President 1995/2002

“The Liberty Forum is extremely important. Science and Technology are made with a debate of ideas. New discoveries are made amidst the discussions. Discussion is something mankind desires. Without discussion, without freedom of action and thinking one cannot develop a country or the industry.”

Paulo Maciel

Secretary of Science and Technology of the State of Rio Grande do Sul

“For the academia, the Liberty Forum is important because it discusses the main ideas of the Brazilian economy in a setting that brings together students, professors and other stakeholders. It enables us to have a face to face interaction with people from all over the world who work on these subjects. The Liberty Forum is like a curtain that opens to the whole world, with the announcement of new research on the Brazilian and world economy. It is an exchange of ideas, discussions and therefore the academia supports this event.”

João Dornelles Júnior

Extension Provost – Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul

“The Liberty Forum is an opportunity to have an open debate of many ideas about subjects such as the individual, the law, property and copyrights. The great advantage of the Liberty Forum is that it proposes solutions. There are other forums for debate, but they do not present concrete solutions.”

Jorge Gerdau Johannpeter

Chair of the Gerdau Board of Directors

“I have already attended events in many places in Brazil and elsewhere, in the United States and Europe. This is certainly been one of the best ones I have ever attended. I was extremely impressed with the subject chosen, Property and Development, which is very relevant for the time Brazil is going through right now. I like the format of the Forum. It brings people with different views. Ultimately, any issue can open space for debate and the forum values this debate. This is the only way to find solutions to the serious problems we have. The Liberty Forum plays an important role.”

Ricardo Amorim

Economist, host of the Manhattan Connection show

“My visit to Porto Alegre was memorable. It was really exciting to see the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies in action and be able to reinforce many of the ideas you cherish, proving that they work in practice. Your attitude and approach are in great contrast to most of what I have seen throughout the world, where governments and citizens reluctantly convert to the practice of (free) market merely out of necessity, not as a philosophical choice.”

Ruth Richardson

Minister of Treasury in New Zealand, 1990/1993
